Researchers from the University of Silesia in Katowice patented a nanocatalyst that allows to conduct reactions in a more efficient manner and with less contamination. It can be used, for example, in the pharmaceutical industry.
No one will be able to hide a murder weapon, bomb, smuggled drugs and cigarettes, valuables or endangered species products in the car anymore. The Polish system "Sowa" (Owl) can scan the entire car millimetre by millimetre - not only at a border crossing, but also at a parking lot, entrance gate or control station.
Chemists from the Gdańsk University of Technology have invented a bioplastic material composed mainly of starch. It can be used, for example, for the production of disposable tableware that will biodegrade after use and composting. The university is looking for manufacturers willing to use the invention.
Students from the Wrocław University of Science and Technology have completed work on an innovative gripper, whose operation they want to test in the microgravity and vacuum conditions. In March, their device will be launched to an altitude of 80 km on board the REXUS rocket.
A computer program can help to produce food with high nutritional and health value, and at the same time processed in an environmentally friendly manner. Computer scientists from the University of Lodz are working on an innovative system for calculating the carbon footprint for the agri-food industry.
Polish researchers solved the problem of researchers working with carbon nanomaterials in laboratories around the world. They used a method developed over 150 years ago. They can separate the selected type of nanotubes from the crowd of others, whose diameters differ from each other by the length of the radius of the hydrogen atom. The idea has been described in Nature Scientific Report.
A new method for synthesising tiny structures of flat graphene has been demonstrated by a team from Poland and Germany in Science. For the first time, nanographenes were not synthesised on metal, but directly on a semiconductor substrate. These opens new perspectives for applications, for example in electronics and photonics.
