Kudrycka: we need a new science minister

Poland needs new energy and new people, including new Minister of Science and Higher Education - said on Friday head of the ministry Barbara Kudrycka. She admitted that a change in her position will happen, but not just yet.

Kudrycka, who was a guest on Polish Radio 3 on Friday, made it clear that she will leave the government in November. Asked if she has discussed this with the Prime Minister, she admitted: "We have talked about this".

She added that Poland needs "new energy" and "new people". Inquired whether this includes the Ministry of Science, she said: "Yes, I believe it does". "I think that there should be a large reconstruction (of the government) and that the Polish people new ministers who will bring new ideas and join the government with new energy. I am convinced that we also need new people, or at least a new minister in science and higher education" - she said.

Kudrycka stressed that she "has broken all records" because none of the Ministers of Science and Higher Education has prevailed on the position for so long, six years. "I always thought that the essence of the democratic system is the ability to, after some time, introduce people who can take a critical look at their predecessors, but also bring great passion" - she noted.

"The prime minister also believes that we need a new energy. I think he also agrees with me that we need a big cabinet reconstruction. We have talked about it many times - about the extent, timing. From my point of view, Prime Minister has already made his decision and will announce it soon. As he said yesterday - it will happen in November" - noted minister Kudrycka. Asked if there would be a change of Minister of Science and Higher Education, she said: "Yes , but not just yet".

Asked if she would start in next year\'s elections to the European Parliament, Kudrycka replied that it was "a future and uncertain event". She explained that the lists of Civic Platform (PO) candidates to the European Parliament are determined by the regional structures of the party, only after the national convention of PO. The minister admitted that if she wanted to start in the election, it would be a constituency covering two regions: Warmia and Mazury and Podlaskie. "We have not discussed it yet" - she added.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that the reshuffle would happen in November. Certainly before December 1st - he said few days ago .

"In November, so probably before or after the 23rd, but certainly before December 1st" - said the head of government. National convention of the Civic Platform is scheduled for November 23.

According to PAP sources in the PO authorities, cabinet reshuffle could include ministers of sport - Joanna Mucha, administration and digitisation - Michał Boni, finance - Jacek Rostowski, education - Krystyna Szumilas and science - Barbara Kudrycka.
