Veterinary Research Centre opened at SGGW-WULS

Veterinary Research Centre, an integrated laboratory complex for tests on animals such as pigs, sheep and goats, has been opened at Warsaw University of Life Sciences (SGGW-WULS). Animal studies conducted in the Centre costing more than PLN 12 million, will be a starting point for research on humans.

Veterinary Research Centre will be part of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Warsaw University of Life Sciences. It will conduct research on the border of medicine and veterinary medicine, in the field of physiology and pathophysiology of animals and the study of diseases and conditions which constitute a threat to public health.

The projects will include both basic research in the field of biomedical sciences, medicine and veterinary medicine, but also research on drugs, dietary supplements and animal feed additives. Researchers will also investigate the functions of the various systems of the body, especially the digestive system, neurohormonal studies, studies of metabolism, gene expression. The centre will also conduct educational activities.

"For many years, SGGW-WULS has been an icon of progress and development. I am proud that this university can present another modern research centre, which will contribute to the development of scientific research and the implementation of results into practice" - said Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Marek Sawicki during the opening ceremony.

Rector of SGGW-WULS Prof. Alojzy Szymański noted that applied research requires modern equipment. "Therefore, SGGW-WULS continues to expand its laboratories. This allows us to conduct joint research on a global level with many domestic and foreign universities" - emphasised the rector of Warsaw University of Life Sciences.

The cost of the Veterinary Research Centre is over PLN 12 million, 10 million of which has been covered by a grant from the European Union. This amount has been used to purchase research equipment and built analytical and research laboratories. The project was implemented under the Mazowieckie Voivodeship Regional Operational Programme 2007-2013.
