The European Organization for Nuclear Research CERN engages again in the study of the speed of neutrinos. With the solutions developed by Polish company the accuracy of neutrino flight time measurement will exceed one billionth of a second.CERN and Gran Sasso laboratory are conducting another experiment designed to precisely measure the speed of neutrinos. This time the experiment is conducted using extremely precise timing system co-developed and producer by Polish company Creotech Instruments.

"The probability that neutrinos actually move faster than light is very small, but our devices allow to accurately measure their speed and thus verify the results of the previous experiment" - said Dr. Grzegorz Brona, physicist, member of the board of Creotech Instruments.

Since 2010 Creotech Instruments and CERN implement the project, which aims to develop a new standard and technology for time synchronization between two remote devices. This system is called White Rabbit, and it is an open system.

This technology improves the standard currently in force in the industry by a factor of 50 and allows a synchronization accuracy better than one billionth of a second. In collaboration with CERN, Creotech Instruments has designed the first measurements cards, produced prototypes and delivered the first implementation series to CERN. The company also supports CERN in the implementation of cards in the OPERA experiment.

"Running the system in the Opera experiment proves for the first time that the White Rabbit system is working properly in large-scale deployments. Regardless of the outcome of the experiment, our system opens a new chapter in the field of precise time synchronization. The devices will find applications in the stock market systems, where thousands of transactions are being made within microseconds. Knowledge of the exact time is of paramount importance, including the measurement of time of order" - said Grzegorz Brona.

He added that the Polish company already supplies White Rabbit system components to France, Germany, Holland, Great Britain, Spain and the United States.

Creotech Instruments SA was founded by Polish scientists, former employees of CERN. The company develops technologies and their applications, offering time synchronization systems based on the White Rabbit protocol, M2M systems, IP cameras and measuring systems.

White Rabbit (WR) is the name of measurement and control technology based on the Gigabit Ethernet protocol and IEEE1588. WR provides synchronization of all the devices (up to 1000 nodes) with nanosecond precision using fiber optic and copper cables for distances up to 10 km between nodes. The implementation of technology uses the physical layer synchronization (clock recovery) and precision time synchronization protocol PTP (IEEE 1588).
