15 percent men and 23 percent women reach for fruits and vegetables several times a day. Three percent women and four percent men do this only once a week, according to the study conducted by the agency Inquiry for the nationwide campaign "Tomato time, or how can you not love Polish vegetables and fruits".

The study conducted by the agency Inquiry for th nationwide campaign "Tomato time..." confirms disparities in fruit and vegetable consumption among women and men. Ladies reach for fruits and vegetables more often.

15 percent men and 23 percent women declared eating fruits and vegetables several times a day. A large percentage of men, as many as 20 percent, reaches for fruits and vegetables only 2-3 times a week. In most cases, these products appear in our diet every day or almost every day - 52 percent women and 58 percent men.

Three percent women and four percent men have fruits and vegetables once a week. One percent women and two percent men admitted that they eat fruits and vegetables only once a month.

"Most Poles do not apply dietary guidelines, according to which we should consume several servings of fruit and vegetable daily. This means that our society still has not developed good eating habits" - says the director of the Office of the Federation of Agricultural Producers’ Associations Agnieszka Falba, the initiator of the nationwide "Tomato time" campaign.

We usually eat vegetables and fruits raw or cooked, but the preferences are quite diverse. Women are more likely than men to opt for relatively "exotic" forms of cooking vegetables and fruits: braising (31 percent women and 26 percent men), steaming (28 percent women and 19 percent men), baking (24 percent women and 15 percent men) and barbecue (24 percent women and 12 percent men).

Also, women (77 percent) more often than men (69 percent) eat vegetables and fruits as a separate meals, or as snacks. An even greater disparity can be observed in the case of vegetables and fruit consumed as side dishes, such as salads (88 percent women and 75 percent men).

Men prefer domestic products. The percentage of men who prefer Polish fruits and vegetables reaches 43 percent. In the case of women it is 38 percent.

The study was conducted by the agency Inquiry in August 2011, as part of a nationwide socio-educational campaign "Tomato time...", based on an Internet survey of a sample of 520 adult Poles.
