Launch of the next stage of salary increases for employees of public universities

More than 1 billion zlotys will be spent this year to increase salaries of employees of public universities. At the request of the Minister of Science and Higher Education, the Minister of Finance decided to make appropriate funds available - the Ministry of Science announced on May 21.

"The increases apply to the period from January 2015, and so they will be paid out with compensation" - as stated in the Ministry of Science release.

The Ministry reminded that over the past three years, the government guaranteed the growth of average wages of employees of public universities by 30 percent. This means that every year, their salaries increases by an average of 9.14 percent. The related total expenditure from the state budget amounts to approx. 5.7 billion zlotys.

In 2013, the government allocated more than 900 million zlotys to salary increases for employees of public universities. In the year 2014, 950 million zlotys more was transferred to increase their salaries.

According to the release, this year out of one billion allocated zlotys for salary increases nearly 850 million zlotys will go to public universities supervised by the minister responsible for higher education (some universities are supervised by other ministers - of culture, health, defence).

Growth in wages has been provided not only for academics and researchers, but also for other civilian employees of public universities (excluding those employed in student homes and canteens).
