Poland has prepared proposals for solutions concerning salaries for researchers from the EU programme Horizon 2020. Minister of Science Lena Kolarska-Bobińska discussed the proposals with, among others, Czech Minister for Education, Youth and Sport, Dr. Marcel Chládek.

Horizon 2020 is the largest research and innovation programme in the history of the European Union. Its seven-year budget for 2014-2020 is expected to exceed 77 billion euros. However, the salaries of scientists could be financed from these funds only to a limited extent. Existing regulations may lead to a situation in which the share of certain EU countries in grants from Horizon 2020 will be too low.

"Poland has prepared new proposals for solutions in terms of remuneration, which could be used in all Horizon 2020 projects, and would encourage scientists from all EU member states to even participation in the programme" - informed Ministry of Science and Higher Education in the release sent to PAP on May 15.

The consultation of draft Regulation that will allow for additional remuneration for Polish scientists participating in the "HORIZON 2020" projects lasts from 13 to 27 May.

Minister of Science Lena Kolarska-Bobińska discussed the topic with, among others, Czech Minister of Education, Youth and Sport Dr. Marcel Chládek. " Minister Lena Kolarska-Bobińska will seek support of other European ministers for the Polish proposal to amend the EU Regulation on wages in the largest research funding in history" - announced the press office of the Ministry of Science.

Changing the rules should result in higher participation of Polish scientists and research teams in European research programs. The funds for salaries are to be split on the basis of the role of the Polish participant in the project (coordinator or partner) and that the amount of the EU funds per Polish participant in the project consortium.

During the meeting with Czech Minister, Prof. Kolarska-Bobińska also discussed the principles of exchange of students and scientists from both countries. The Protocol on the Polish-Czech cooperation, which expires this year, regulates scholarships and fellowships carried on in the neighbouring country, 1 semester studies and study visits, as well as language courses.

Minister of Science also spoke with the authorities of Charles University in Prague. The meeting concerned the Polish language chair at the university. Popular course at the oldest Polish studies in the Czech Republic, in the Department of Central European Studies, help to promote Polish culture and Polish literature in the country of our neighbours.
