2nd Edition of the Ulam Programme: Scholarships for Foreign Scientists in Poland

Universities and scientific institutions are inviting researchers from all over the world to Poland to join scientific projects and didactic activities or share their experience in obtaining grants. Applications for scholarships in the second edition of the Ulam Programme will be accepted until April 15.

The scholarship covers the cost of a foreign scientist`s stay in Poland for half a year to 2 years. Researchers who have obtained a doctoral degree in a country other than Poland are eligible. As part of the programme, universities and scientific institutions can invite both career researchers and experienced scientists from all fields. Invited scientists will join research projects and didactic activities, they can also support the institution in preparing applications for prestigious grants. Stays of foreign scientists in Poland can last from 6 to 24 months.

The goal of the Ulam Programme is to increase the degree of internationalization of Polish universities and scientific institutions. Seventy scholarships were awarded in the first edition. Researchers from India, Germany, Ukraine, Italy, Czechia, Brazil, Turkey, Serbia, Great Britain, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Chile, Egypt, Estonia, France, Greece, Spain, Iran, Japan, Costa Rica, Nigeria, Pakistan, Portugal, South Africa, Russia, Slovenia and the United States came to Poland.

Proposals can be submitted until April 15 via the National Academic Exchange Agency website.

Stanisław Marcin Ulam (1909 -1984) was a brilliant Polish mathematician who earned a PhD from the Lviv Polytechnic in 1933. Professor Ulam was a member of the internationally renowned Lviv School of Mathematics and co-author of the Scottish Book. Shortly before the outbreak of the Second World War, he went to the USA to join the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton. Several American universities appointed him as an associate professor (including the Ivy League University of Colorado Boulder, University of Wisconsin, Florida State University).
