PhD in beer brewing
The University of Agriculture in Kraków launches pioneering doctoral studies in Malting and Brewing as part of the project European Joint Doctorate Food Science.
The purpose of the studies is to educate professionals for the dynamically developing brewing industry. They will conduct advanced research, and in the future also implement innovative applications for the brewing industry in Poland and abroad.
The innovative project will involve eight PhD students who will gain expertise at six European universities.
The project is coordinated by Dr. Aleksander Poreda of the University of Agriculture in Kraków.
The Project Inauguration Ceremony - European Joint Doctorate Food Science (EJDFoodSci) was held on 25 October. The program of 3-year course includes internships and travel; students will receive a monthly scholarship of 2500 euros.
The members of the consortium, led by the University of Agriculture in Kraków, include: University of Copenhagen, University of Nottingham, the Belgian Ghent University, the Catholic University of Leuven and the Technical University of Berlin.
Doctoral students will gain experience in various institutions and food industry plants in Europe. Among them is the VLB Berlin - Institute of Brewing, British company FlavorActiV Limited, Danish brewing company Carlsberg Group and Belgian malt manufacturer Boortmalt.
After graduating, young scientists will receive a combined doctoral degree in the field of food science and engineering and a joint diploma issued by at least two universities.
The project is funded by the European Commission\'s Horizon 2020 and has a total budget of over € 2 million.
