PLN 44 million for international cooperation of universities

In the National Research and Development Centre competition, 26 universities received a total of PLN 44 million to develop cooperation with foreign partners. Universities can use the funds to create new courses of study and raise the competence of academic staff.

In the competition, enrichment of the educational offer with solutions developed in collaboration with prestigious academic centres in Europe played an important role.

Universities and PAS research institutes could submit applications for funding transnational programs of international cooperation. They could apply for funds for the creation of new courses for undergraduate and graduate students, and adaptation of existing training programs for the needs of the labour market. Funds in the competition can also be spent on university co-operation with employers, raising the competence of academic teachers, training and internships at leading academic centres abroad, as well as scholarships for young researchers and visiting professors.

With the funds granted by the National Research and Development Centre, the University of Silesia will develop studies related to the design of games and virtual space, the University of Wrocław will develop an international program of study in mathematics and applied computer science for business, and the University of Warsaw - the Warsaw School of Data Analysis. The University of Gdansk will expand cooperation with the University of Houston-Downtown, and University of Life Sciences in Lublin will adapt Hungarian solutions in tourism industry personnel training.

In the competition announced in September, 118 applications were submitted with a total value in excess of PLN 252 million.

Competition for transnational programs is yet another action of the National Research and Development Centre aiming to facilitate the development universities’ cooperation with employers and adaptation of studies to the requirements of local and global labour markets. To date, the Centre has spent nearly 4 billion zlotys for this purpose.
