Lublin biotech firm says its new drug will ‘KILL’ coronavirus

A biotech firm from Lublin has developed what it says is the world’s first drug to fight COVID-19.
By using the plasma of convalescents, the drug developed by Biomed-Lublin, contains specific anti-SARS-CoV-2 immunoglobulins and is now ready to undergo clinical trials.
At a press conference, Senator Grzegorz Czelej said: “We are the first in the world to have a drug for COVID-19, a drug that works, a drug containing antibodies that neutralize the coronavirus, ones that kill the coronavirus.”
More than 3,000 ampoules of the anti-SARS-CoV-2 have been produced with laboratory tests being carried out at the Małopolska Centre of Biotechnology of the Jagiellonian University.
Professor Krzysztof Pyrć from the centre told the press conference that the results had been “very positive.”
Clinical trials will now be carried out on around 400 patients infected with the virus in four centres across Poland and it is hoped that the drug will be made widely available by the beginning of next year.
But the company says it is now looking for donors.
Piotr Fic from Biomed-Lublin said: “The only donors of plasma are humans, so we ask donors to come forward, because this plasma is needed for plasma therapy and for the production of our drug.”
