The 14th edition of the Popularizer of Science has been launched. The competition awards people, teams, the media and institutions that promote science. Candidates can be proposed until mid-October.
According to British cryptologist Alan Turing`s nephew, because of showcasing the achievements of his relative, people are forgetting about the contribution of Polish codebreakers, without whom "it is hard to imagine that Alan Turing’s crib-checking machine would have been conceived so fast, if at all".
Dr. Łukasz Kołtowski, a cardiologist from the Medical University of Warsaw, became a member of the leadership of the European Association of Percutaneous Cardiovascular Interventions. The Polish cardiologist will chair the committee responsible for communication and social media - informed the Medical University of Warsaw.
Planck satellite team and mission managers received the 2018 Gruber Cosmology Prize. Polish scientist Prof. Krzysztof Górski has an important role in the team. The $500,000 prize is awarded by the Gruber Foundation at Yale University in the U.S.
Professor Michał Grabowski from the Department of Invertebrate Zoology and Hydrobiology, University of Lodz, has been invited as a representative of Poland to the International Barcode of Life (iBOL) - a network that uses DNA barcodes to monitor and study the diversity of species of animals and plants.
