Gene Research Lab Opens in Warsaw

A new laboratory focusing on understanding gene regulatory mechanisms has opened in Warsaw.
The Laboratory of RNA Biology which opened last week at the International Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology is headed by Professor Andrzej Dziembowski.
In a press release he said that in order to understand how genes work and propose new therapeutic approaches, it is necessary to understand regulatory mechanisms. They occur at many stages, but one of the most interesting is regulation at the RNA level, which will be the focus of the new laboratory.
A biologist and author of publications describing mechanisms of post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression and how its disorders lead to the development of human diseases, in 2018, Professor Dziembowski was one of the winners of the prestigious Foundation for Polish Science Prize, sometimes referred to as the 'Polish Nobel Prize'. He is also a correspondent member of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
The head of the newly opened laboratory spent several years working at the CNRS Centre de Génétique Moléculaire in Gif-sur-Yvette. In addition to domestic scholarships and grants, he was awarded the prestigious European Research Council (ERC) grant for researchers starting a promising scientific project and grants from the 6th and 7th EU Framework Programmes. He has published molecular biology papers in prestigious journals, including Nature, Cell, Nature Structural and Molecular Biology and Nature Communications.
The new RNA Biology Laboratory was established with funds from the ERA Chairs Horizon 2020 programme, as part of the project "MOlecular Signaling in Health and Disease - Interdisciplinary Centre of Excellence" (MOSaIC).
