Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange: Success of Polish Science Day at EXPO Dubai 2020

15 thousand people visited the Poland Pavilion on Saturday during the Polish Science Day. This is one of the best results since the opening of the exhibition.

According to the agency's press release, each attraction enjoyed great interest. The youngest audience took part in the workshops and shows prepared by the Copernicus Science Centre, and a meeting with Dr. Tomasz Rożek, who prepared the game 'Academy of Super Heroes', presenting outstanding Polish scientists as superheroes.

Adult visitors could see the concert by Dr. Szymon Musał, the Vice-Rector for Student Affairs and Didactics at the Academy of Music in Poznań. The setlist included compositions by Ignacy Jan Paderewski and Fryderyk Chopin, the most famous Polish composers.

The heart of the Poland Pavilion is an exhibition on the achievements of Polish medicine 'POLAND - THE HEART OF EUROPE'. The multimedia exhibition presents the history of Polish medicine and the contribution of Polish scientists and doctors to world medicine. It is divided into six thematic areas: brain and sensory organs, cancer and immunology, cardiovascular diseases, surgery and organ transplantation, infectious diseases, and paediatrics. A hologram of the heart turned out to be particularly interesting for visitors.

'The interest in attendance the Poland Pavilion shows that science is our best export commodity. I hope that this success will mean that we will present the achievements of Polish scientists during events of this type more often', says the Chairman of the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange, Professor Tomasz Pietrzykowski.

Those willing to see the Poland pavilion had to wait in long queues, and on the Polish Science Day the pavilion had 15,000 visitors from around the world.

Among the visitors to the Polish exhibition were the European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development Janusz Wojciechowski and other representatives of the European Union, - Chargé d'Affaires of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in the United Arab Emirates Paweł Mączka and former Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates in Poland Dr. Yousif Eisa Hassan Al Sabri.

The Polish Science Week in Dubai includes an education fair with the participation of several Polish HEI that present their offer to Arab young people.

The Polish Science Day was organised in recognition of the achievements of Polish scientists. Its traditional date, February 19, is the birthday of Nicolaus Copernicus. The data was selected in recognition of his outstanding contribution to astronomy. The idea behind this celebration is to inspire others to follow in the footsteps of outstanding Polish researchers and strengthen interest in science. The Polish Science Day was celebrated for the first time in 2020. (PAP)
