Slovak-Polish research project to help fight COVID-19 pandemic
Poland and Slovakia have teamed up to search for tools to monitor and reduce the risk of the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Led by the Slovak University of Technology (the oldest and largest technical university in Slovakia) in partnership with the Comenius University and the Łukasiewicz-PORT Institute, scientists want to create a prototype system that can identify social interactions and, consequently, monitor the spread of SARS-CoV-2.
Using the location of users in high-risk locations while maintaining their full anonymity, a special device or application will alert users about the potential risk of contact with an infected person.
The Łukasiewicz-PORT Institute will be responsible for testing pilot groups and modelling support with the use of advanced diagnostic and laboratory facilities, including the newly established BSL-3 laboratory.
The total budget of the project entitled 'Research and development of the telemedicine system monitoring the spread of COVID-19 and the development of analytical tools to reduce the risk of infection' is over EUR 2 million from the EU Operational Programme Integrated Infrastructure managed by the Slovak Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport.
