Scientists from the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry at the Polish Academy of Sciences in Poznań have developed the next generation of their SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus detection test.

According to the Institute, this second test detects two SARS-CoV-2 virus genes, making the result more reliable and easier to interpret.

The Institute said in a press release: “An additional advantage of MediPAN 2G is the unique, two-stage control system that simultaneously controls both the quality of the material taken from the patient (swab) and the correct preparation of the material for testing.

“Increasing the capabilities in no way hinders or extends the test preparation procedure, making it a powerful diagnostic tool tailored to the needs of users."

The MediPAN 2G test is a development of an original Polish test based entirely on components manufactured in Poland by local companies.

The Institute said: “Thanks to cooperation between the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry and three Polish companies - Medicofarma SA, Future Synthesis Sp. Z o.o. and A&A Biotechnology - it is possible to produce a test that is entirely made in Poland and can be used as a basic qPCR test in determining SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus infection.”

The MediPAN 2G test received a positive recommendation from the National Institute of Public Health - National Institute of Hygiene and is a CE IVD certified diagnostic test for use in qualified diagnostic centres equipped for qPCR analyses.
