Team from Białystok University of Technology in the World Finals of Imagine Cup 2016

A team of students from Białystok University of Technology PSYLLOSOFT is among the 13 teams that will compete in the World Citizenship category in the World Finals of Imagine Cup.

The team members are computer science student Petros Psyllos and management and production engineering student Krzysztof Bujnarowski. Team mentor is Dr. Jerzy Sienkiewicz.

They will compete with their project MATIA, a mobile device designed for the blind and visually impaired. The device can be worn, for example, pinned to the shirt. It describes the environment by means of sound and vibration, so that the user can move more easily and safely - told PAP the Białystok University of Technology spokeswoman.

The Imagine Cup 2016 World Finals will take place in late July in Seattle. Polish students will compete with teams from all over the world, including Mexico, Singapore, China, Germany and Nigeria.

Imagine Cup competition has been organized since 2003. It attracts students from all over the world, who submit projects that - presumably - can "make the world a better place". Proposed solutions relate to various fields, such as health, education and environmental protection. The competition participants have the support of specialists in their fields and an opportunity to obtain funds for the development of their projects. For many participants this is a crucial step on the road to starting their own business.

The competition is divided into three main categories: Games, World Citizenship and Innovation. All 13 editions of the competition have been attended by nearly 2 million students representing more than 190 countries. Polish students compete in the Imagine Cup since 2004.
