10 student teams from Poland to start in Shell Eco-marathon

10 student teams from the Polish competition will participate in the Shell Eco-marathon 2014. Competitors, whose task will be to drive the longest distance on one litre of fuel, will represent by six universities. Warsaw University of Technology will send as many as four teams.

The 30th edition of the Shell Eco-marathon will take place on 15 - 18 May on a street circuit in Rotterdam. The event will attract more than 3 thousand students from 200 teams representing 27 countries. Each team will try to drive as far as possible on 1 litre of fuel (or proportionally 1 kwh) in a vehicle they designed and built.

Warsaw University of Technology will be represented by four teams: Green Arrow – Vehicle Engineers Scientific Club of the Faculty of Automotive and Construction Machinery; SiMR Team with the vehicle Hussar; SKAP and SKAP2 of the Vehicle Aerodynamics Student Club at the Faculty of Power and Aeronautical Engineering.

Team Eco -Zone 505 of Lublin University of Technology will start in Shell Eco-marathon for the third time. Gdańsk University of Technology students will be represented by team Hydrogen CarPG. Łódź University of Technology will be represent by Iron Warriors. This year marks the debut of the team WAT ECO TEAM of the Military University of Technology. Smart Power Urban team from Silesian University of Technology team will also present their vehicle called Bytel for the first time. Another representative of this university will be team Smart Power.

Participants will compete in two categories: futuristic "Prototype" and more conventional "UrbanConcept". Although most of the participants have already had the chance to race on the track in Rotterdam, this year they will face a new challenge. Vehicles will have to change direction during the race, which will force teams to devise a new driving strategies.

In last year\'s competition, team SKAP of the Faculty of Power and Aeronautical Engineering won the Urban Concept Gasoline category. Their vehicle - Paks - drove 334.2 km on one litre of fuel. "Last year we were extremely proud of the professionalism of Polish teams. This year, we look forward to more successful and fantastic performances of our representatives. It\'s great to be able to see the race of so talented young people who contribute to the creation of energy efficient vehicles of the future" - said Shell Polska CEO Piotr Dziwok.

Shell Eco-marathon is held every year in Europe, the United States ( April 25-27, Houston ) and Asia (6-9 February, Manila).
