Professor Wojtaszek - this is the name of the new rhododendron variant obtained in Kraków. The inventors have applied to the Research Centre for Cultivar Testing for an exclusive protection right for the original Polish variety of the plant.

The new rhododendron`s creators are employees of the University of Agriculture in Krakow: Prof. Maria Klein and Dr. Piotr Muras. The name of the plant commemorates Prof. Tadeusz Wojtaszek, the founder of the Faculty of Horticulture of the University of Agriculture in Krakow. The university informed about their achievement.

This new rhododendron is a hybrid (obtained with a traditional, generative method followed by positive selection) of the Yakushimanum hybrid of R. degronianum named Koichiro Wada and the Purdoma species (Rhododendron purdomii).

The new variety is distinguished by its high resistance to frost, abundant flowering in April and May, original shape of flowers, white and pale pink colour.

It took the researchers six years to grow Professor Wojtaszek. The rhododendron is located on the campus of the University of Agriculture in Krakow. Anyone interested in seedlings should contact the university.
