Poland signed biomed cooperation agreement with the U.S.

"The agreement with the U.S. will help achieve one of my priorities, establishing the Clinical Research Agency and developing biomedical sciences" - said Minister Szumowski. He explained that with this agreement, Polish biomedical sciences and Polish scientists will gain a great opportunity for development and access to the resources of scientific research, knowledge and experience of American institutions.

According to the agreement, the areas of cooperation concern the development of joint research, training and targeted actions, including activities concerning the diseases controlled by vaccination and other infectious diseases, tuberculosis, pandemic flu, chronic diseases, in particular cardiovascular diseases, malignant tumours, diabetes, respiratory diseases, dementia and mental health.

The Minister of Health informed that he talked with Alex Azar about a scholarship program for Polish researchers and doctors scheduled to start in autumn. A total of one hundred people will participate in the program. "They will have the opportunity to work in the best scientific and medical centres in the U.S." - Szumowski told PAP.

U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services suggested that he would support the creation of a technology transfer system in Poland.

Azar expressed his satisfaction with the agreement signed with Poland. Referring to information about changes in the healthcare system in Poland, he emphasised that the United States was also at the stage of modifying its healthcare system.

In addition to signing the agreement at the U.S. Department of Health, the Polish delegation also met with representatives of the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) and visited the National Institutes of Health. The agenda of the visit also included meetings with members of the Polish-American Business Council and representatives of the Polish diaspora. (PAP)
