Students and employees of the University of Zielona Góra built an electric-powered, eco-friendly scooter. Residents of the Zielona Góra could take it for a test ride on June 3, during the Science Festival.

The scooter has a top speed of 50 km/h. Range without recharging will be about 60 km, and the cost of 100 km travel is about PLN 12.

"However, the exact values of these parameters will be determined during test rides, which will be carried out by the end of June" - said university spokeswoman Ewa Sapeńko.

The scooter is equipped with 4 kW electric motor power by a 36 V battery. Significantly redesigned wheels and frame of Simson SR50 scooter were used in its construction.

Remaining components, such as frame cover, handlebars, front mask, transmission and electrical system were designed and built by students, members of the Student Motor Club.

The environmental electric scooter project is carried out by students from the Student Motor Club at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Zielona Góra. The idea originator was the Club scientific supervisor Zdzisław Wałęga.

Construction began in January 2012. The next stage will follow after the summer holidays and involve replacing some scooter components with lighter ones, made of composite materials. Chain transmission will be replaced with a transmission belt.

This was the ninth edition of Science Festival in Zielona Góra.
