Persons, teams and institutions that educate the Polish citizens on the problems of science can now compete for the 13th time for the title of Science Populariser. Candidates in the new edition of the competition, organized by PAP - Science and Scholarship in Poland and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education can be proposed until mid-October.

The competition organised by PAP - Science and Scholarship in Poland awards people, teams and institutions that help others better understand the world, and are able to interest persons not associated with science in scientific developments. Winners will be awarded the title of Science Populariser and receive a statuette.

"Due to the importance of science and its current complexity, popularisation of research achievements is now one of the most important tasks of every scientist. The mission of the competition organised for 13 years by PAP and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education has been to present the best Polish initiatives in this area. Individual scholars, teams and research institutions, journalists and animators of scientific education are invited to participate in the competition"- says chairman of the competition jury, Prof. Michał Kleiber.

From among the candidates, the jury will select the Grand Prize winner. This most prestigious award in the competition will be awarded to the candidate (person, team, institution or medium) that promotes science exceptionally creatively and effectively.

Winners will also be selected in five thematic categories: Scientist, Animator, Team, Institution and Media.

People who promote science and have at least a doctoral degree compete for the award in the Scientist category. The Animator category is for persons, who engage in individual popularisation activity but do not hold an academic degree or title (for example students and doctoral students, administrative staff).

The award in the Team category is intended for groups of people who promote science together, such as by scientists, popularisation animators, science clubs, people working together on popularisation projects, science animators in museums. In the Institution category, the institutions competing for the award are: scientific institutions (for example institutes, organisational units of universities), non-scientific organizations (for example non-governmental organizations, science centres) and enterprises.

In the Media category, the award may be given to journalists, editors, bloggers and web page teams.

Candidates can enter the competition themselves, and in the case of institutions or teams - through their representatives. But that's not all: anyone can nominate a candidate (with the candidate's consent).

Candidates will be evaluated by the jury composed of science popularisers, representatives of the scientific community, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education and PAP - Science and Scholarship in Poland.

Like every year, the editorial staff of PAP - Science and Scholarship in Poland will additionally grant special Tomasz Trzciński Award for the benchmark information policy. Candidates in this category are not accepted; the winner will be selected by the editorial staff.

Competition entries can be submitted until October 15, 2017. The names of the winners will be announced during the competition gala in Warsaw..
