Top Polish universities in the fifth hundred of world ranking

Jagiellonian University and the University of Warsaw are the highest ranked Polish universities in the world ranking CWUR - The Center for World University Rankings. Among the thousand included universities, however, they took places only in the fifth hundred. The ranking winner was the American Harvard University.

The Center for World University Rankings (CWUR) ranking includes top 1,000 universities worldwide, including nine universities in Poland.

Lead of the ranking is dominated by the universities in the United States, as many as eight of them are in the top 10. Places on the podium went to Harvard University, Stanford University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In fourth and fifth place were two British universities: University of Cambridge and University of Oxford. The following positions were taken by Columbia University, the University of California (Berkeley), the University of Chicago, Princeton University, Yale University.

In the second 10 - in addition to universities in the United States - are also two Japanese universities: University of Tokyo in the 13th place, and Kyoto University in the 20th place. Among the European universities, apart from two British universities, the highest place went to ETH Züric h (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich), which was ranked 23rd.

Among Polish universities, the highest - 429th - place went to the Jagiellonian University. A little further - in 449th place - was the University of Warsaw. Warsaw University of Technology was ranked 645th, and the AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków was 819th. In 888th place was the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, and two places lower - 890th place - was the University of Wroclaw. Three Polish universities were in the last hundred of the ranking. 922nd place went to Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, Wroclaw University of Technology was 963rd, and the University of Silesia 969th.

The CWUR ranking is based on eight criteria: the number of a university\'s alumni and academics who have won major international awards, prizes, and medals, the number of a university\'s alumni who have held CEO positions at the world\'s top companies, the number of research papers appearing in reputable journals, the number of highly-cited research paper, the university\'s h-index and the number of international patent filings.
