Five Polish university among the 500 most visible online

The ranking took into account nearly 12 thousand universities from around the world, including more than 420 Polish universities.

Polish university with the highest, 281st position was the Jagiellonian University, followed by the University of Warsaw in the 282nd. Among the 500 universities most visible online are also AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków (384th place), the Warsaw University of Technology (424th place) and Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań (487th place).

In the top 1000 were also: Wroclaw University of Technology (572nd place), Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń (580th place), University of Wroclaw (589th place), University of Silesia in Katowice (705th place), University of Lodz (775th place), Silesian University of Technology (809th place), Poznań University of Technology (847th place) and the Lodz University of Technology (961st place).

Top 100 of the ranking was dominated by American universities. US universities and colleges took 11 top places. The best three were Harvard University, followed by Stanford University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The first European universities, Oxford and Cambridge, took 12th and 13th places.

Webometrics World University Ranking is prepared twice a year by the CSIC (Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Cientificas, Spanish National Research Council) in Madrid. The first edition of the ranking was published in 2004. The aim of the comparison is to strengthen the online presence of academic institutions, and promote open access to publications of scientific results. The criteria taken into account include both the amount of web content (the number of web pages and documents published online), as well as visibility and impact of these publications measured by the number of external links.
