A graduate of Poland\'s only English-language Aviation Management major at the University of Information Technology and Management in Rzeszów, Marcin Dziedzic won the prestigious European Prize in Aviation Management and Economics.

The prize is awarded to young scientists by the scientific committee of the European Conference of Aviation. Spokeswoman for the university Julita Ślusarczyk told PAP that the committee members awarded Dziedzic to a part of his thesis. Rzeszów university graduate is the winner in a common category for bachelors and masters.

"This is very important for me, because the prize is awarded by the elite of aviation practitioners and theorists. If someone at this level decides that I’m exceptional, all that remains for me is to rejoice, because as a summary of the whole course of studies it is probably a pretty big and nice achievement" - noted the winner.

He also revealed that in his thesis he described the relations between low-cost airlines and second-rate airports in Europe.

As a reward Dziedzic received books donated by the German Society for Aerospace Research (GARS) and Ashgate Publishing. The books were presented to him at the International Conference on Aviation in the UK.

Dziedzic wrote his undergraduate thesis under the supervision of Dr. David Warnock-Smith at Huddersfield University, where he studied as part of the Double Degree program offered by UITM in Rzeszów. This allowed him to earn two degrees from two universities.

According to the winner, the opportunity to gain knowledge and experience in various academic centres in the world contributed to his success. He noted that he had this chance because of programs offered by the Rzeszów university. "I was in the place at the right time" - he added.

Double Degree Program gives students the University of Information Technology and Management the opportunity to obtain two diplomas in parallel: from UITM Rzeszów and one of its several partner universities in the UK, Germany and Denmark.

Marcin Dziedzic currently works at the John Paul II International Airport in Kraków-Balice.

Aviation Management is a major opened as part of economy studies in October 2010. It is the only such major in Poland and one of few in Europe. Classes are taught in English. The program lasts six semesters.

An important part of these studies are practical classes taught by international aviation experts, as well as airline internships. Graduates of this specialization have the chance to work for the aviation industry almost worldwide, for example in various departments at airports, as well as in companies that charter planes or are involved in air transport of goods.

University of Information Technology and Management in Rzeszów was founded in 1996. Approx. 6.5 thousand. students study 30 majors (more than 70 specializations), including 7 in English. They have access to more than 70 modern laboratories.
