Clean dust from a document and win prizes

The State Archive in Poznań made more than 600 scanned documents available on Wikimedia Commons. Now they encourage Internet users to make the best use of these documents in Wikipedia articles.
The competition "Clean dust from a document! State Archive in Poznań on Wikipedia" will continue until 15 December. Those who create or expand valuable Wikipedia articles, illustrating them with documents made available by the State Archive in Poznań, may receive sets of awards from the Wikimedia Polska Association. Scanned documents can also be attached to existing articles. Organisers prepared one first prize and two second prizes. Users can add scans not only to the Polish, but to all language versions of Wikipedia.
"Our objective is to teach internet users practical work with documents and show them that archival resources are not boring, dusty papers, but a vivid part of our history" - encourages Natalia Szafran-Kozakowska, Head of the Press Office of the Wikimedia Polska Association.
The documents collected in the Poznań archive include postcards sent to Józef Piłsudski, old ads and posters, family photos of famous people. You can also see what an employment contract looked like in 1840. The archive also has the oldest document stored in Polish archives. It is the foundation document of the Cistercian monastery in Łekno near Wągrowiec from the year 1153.
"This is invaluable information about the past, and working with it is a great complement to encyclopaedic and textbook knowledge" - added Szafran-Kozakowska.
The competition "Clean dust from a document!" was born out of a collaboration between with the Association Wikimedia Polska and the Polish State Archive in Poznań. The initiator of cooperation was Hanna Staszewska, Wikipedian and employee of the State Archive. The competition is yet another fruit of this cooperation. Its primary purpose is to encourage Wikipedians and Wikipedia readers to post documents in the Wikipedia articles, and thus - to expand the volume of the world\'s largest online encyclopaedia.
