Institute of Mathematics PAS with Simons Foundation grant

Institute of Mathematics PAS is one of the awardees of this year\'s Targeted Grants awarded by a private foundation of American billionaire, mathematics and financier - James Simons. "It is the first and so far the only such grant awarded to an institute in Central and Eastern Europe" - announced the Institute of Mathematics PAS.

The grant was awarded for the establishment of "Simons Semesters in Banach Center". Funding was granted for five years, and its total value will exceed 907 thousand dollars. The program also received a comparable amount of funding from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.

"The launch of this program should be considered a great organizational success of Polish mathematics, appreciation for its high scientific level and organizational capacity" - reads the Institute of Mathematics PAS release.

Grant will be implemented at the Banach Center, the international part of the Institute of Mathematics of the Polish Academy of Sciences. The aim of the program is to support international cooperation in research by inviting prominent specialists in various fields of mathematics to the Banach Center for several months stays, to deliver a series of lectures and mentor Polish and foreign doctoral students and young doctors, and to encourage them to cooperate.

The official inauguration of the program was held on Monday, September 14 at 10 AM at the Institute of Mathematics PAS in Warsaw.
