Prof. Józef Dulak re-elected president of the European Vascular Biology Organization

Prof. Józef Dulak from the Jagiellonian University in Krakow was re-elected president of the European Vascular Biology Organization (EVBO). He will remain in office for the next two years. He was previously elected president of EVBO in 2013.

EVBO is a European organization bringing together scientists and clinicians who study the mechanisms of formation and functioning of blood vessels. It launched its activities in 2006.

Prof. Józef Dulak, head of the Department of Medical Biotechnology, Faculty of Biochemistry, Biophysics and Biotechnology, Jagiellonian University, was elected to head the organization at the joint congress of the European Society for Microcirculation (ESM) and the European Vascular Biology Organization (EVBO), which took place on 3 - 6 June in Pisa .

Scientific interests of Prof. Józef Dulak include stem cells, vascular biology and medicine, gene and cell therapy and the mechanisms of disease caused by inflammation and oxidative stress. He holds a honorary doctorate from the University of Orleans, and he is a member of the Committee for Evaluation of Scientific Units (Komitet Ewaluacji Jednostek Naukowych, KEJNA), advisory body to the Minister for Science and Higher Education. Since 2013 he heads the associated laboratory (LIA - Laboratoire International Associe) established by the Department of Medical Biotechnology Department of Biochemistry, Biophysics and Biotechnology, Jagiellonian University and the French National Centre for Scientific Research CNRS in Orleans.

Prof. Dulak is on the program boards of the journals Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis and Vascular Biology, Scientific Reports, PLOS ONE, Vascular Pharmacology, Vascular Cell and Folia Biologica.

Previous presidents of EVBO were Prof. Andrew Newby of the University of Bristol and Prof. Ingrid Fleming of Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main. The next joint congress of EVBO and ESM will be held in two years in Geneva.
