Seven Polish universities in the QS World University rankings

Seven Polish universities were in this year\'s edition QS World University Rankings by Subject. Polish universities did best in the category of Physics & Astronomy, in which five of them were included.

QS World University Rankings are prepared by British company Quacquarelli Symmonds, which issues publications devoted to education and study abroad. It publishes three separate rankings that assess the overall activity of universities, scientific disciplines and subjects. In this year\'s rankings by subject, 3551 universities were rated. Finally, 894 universities offering 14 thousand fields of study were included in the ranking. The ranking takes into account 36 different subjects.

The Polish universities in the QS rankings by subject were: the University of Warsaw, Jagiellonian University, AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków, Warsaw University of Technology, University of Łódź, Warsaw University of Life Sciences and Wrocław University of Technology.

Among the Polish universities, the University of Warsaw and the Jagiellonian University had the best results in the ranking. They were included in the lists of the best universities in ten scientific disciplines. Linguistics, modern languages, mathematics, politics and international studies at the University of Warsaw had positions in the range 101-150; philosophy, physics and astronomy - 151-200; chemistry, English language and literature in the range 201-250; computer science in the range 251-300, and biological sciences in the range 301-400.

At the Jagiellonian University modern languages had the best result, in the range 101-150; English language and literature, geography, linguistics and philosophy had positions 151-200; physics, astronomy and mathematics - 251-300; chemistry, biological sciences and medicine were in the range 301-400.

Warsaw University of Technology was ranked in five fields of study: electrical and electronic engineering ranked in the range 101-150; mechanical, aeronautical & manufacturing engineering - 201-300; computer science, physics and astronomy - 251-300; and mathematics in the range 301-400.

From AGH, included in the ranking was computer science (301-400) and physics and astronomy (301-400) and from Wrocław University of Technology computer science (301-400) and the electrical and electronic engineering (251-300 places). The University of Łódź was also ranked in two categories: English language and literature in the range 251-300; and physics and astronomy in the range 301-400. In the field of agriculture and forestry, Warsaw University of Life Sciences was in the range 51-100.

The ranking takes into account, for example, internationalisation, citation rate, the ratio of teachers to students, opinions about schools in the academic community and among employers. It is available on the website.
