Breakfast is an important meal, it is better to skip dinner than the morning meal, argues head of the Department and Clinic of Internal Medicine, Nephrology and Diabetes of the Medical University of Silesia, Prof. Władysław Grzeszczak.

In the book "The 8-hour Diet", recently published in Poland, “Men’s Health” magazine Editor Peter Moore and former Editor-in-Chief David Zinczenko argue that it is better to skip breakfast. They believe that you can eat at any time, but only for eight hours a day. For example, from 8 AM to 4 PM or between 11 AM and 7 PM, does not really matter.

You can choose any time for eating, but the authors believe that it is better to skip the morning sandwich or scrambled eggs. Breakfast, contrary to the claims of dieters, is unnecessary, we can easily do without it, they wrote in "The 8-hour Diet".

Many Poles live in such a rush that they skip breakfast. Prof. Władysław Grzeszczak, however, emphatically warns against this.

"Breakfast is an important meal, and it should be the start of every day. Eating even a sandwich in the morning inhibits excessive secretion of glucose, which is produced at night, especially in patients with diabetes" - emphasized the specialist.

During a meal, the liver stores sugar in the form of glycogen, which is a combination of multiple molecules of glucose. The point is that the body should have a supply of glucose between meals and at night. During this period, the liver converts glycogen back to glucose.

The liver can produce glucose from other substances such as amino acids and fats. This process is called a glucogenesis. "The morning meal is important because it stops the excessive secretion of glucose by the liver" - emphasised Prof. Grzeszczak.

The expert also noted that in addition to eating breakfast, an important thing is to eat meals in small portions, but often, 5 to 6 times a day. The point is that when we eat more meals, energy is more often used to initiate the secretion of enzymes by the liver" - explained Prof. Grzeszczak.

Prof. Meena Shah from Texas Christian University argues in "Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics" that it\'s also good to eat their meals without haste. Slow food promotes satisfying hunger faster, so the feeling of satiety is maintained longer with smaller portions eaten. (PAP)
