Polish scientist among Bayer scholarship winners

For the first time this year, a one-year Bayer sponsored scholarship has been awarded to a Polish scientist. Milena Tryfon from the Warsaw University of Life Sciences will receive a one-year scholarship in the amount of 9100 euros, allowing her to take master\'s degree abroad.

Bayer Science & Education Foundation awarded scholarships totalling to 200 thousand euros to 52 people. Fellows are young students of science, natural sciences and medical sciences.

Applicants of the program started in 1923 can be German citizens who want to study abroad, as well as scientists from other countries wishing to carry out projects in Germany.

According to the release the representatives of Bayer sent to PAP, this year the Bayer Foundation selected 52 winners from among 600 applications. For the first time, there was a polish scientist among the fellows, 23 years old Milena Tryfon.

The winner completed a biotechnology engineering course at the Warsaw University of Life Sciences. She has had a number of specialist placements, including the Erasmus program at the Catholic University of Louvain (Belgium), the Centre for Bioengineering, Trinity College Dublin (Ireland), the Center for Regenerative Therapies in Dresden (Germany) and at the Warsaw Institute of Oncology.

"I\'m interested in regenerative medicine, especially tissue engineering - the goal is to replace or maintain the function of damaged tissues or organs with implants of a live human cells and biomaterials - said Milena Trifon - The scholarship will allow me to take my dream course at RWTH Aachen University (Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule Aachen). The interdisciplinary program combines knowledge of medicine, science and engineering."

In this year\'s competition, the Bayer Foundation supported projects in the following fields: biology, biotechnology, molecular biology, chemistry, physics, medicine and veterinary medicine. Young scientists will conduct research in countries including Australia, Chile, China, Israel, Japan, Canada, Rwanda, the United States. Fellows from outside Germany include students from China, Finland, Cameroon, Poland.
