Polish consortium wants to build a family of flying drones

Design and implementation of the production of the entire family of unmanned aircraft systems is the objective of the consortium formed in response to the demand of the Polish army, announced the company WB Electronics, the consortium leader.

Members of the WB Electronics group are radio systems manufacturer Radmor, constructor of the mini- drone FlyEye already used by the Polish army company Flytronic, remote control systems manufacturer Arex and wireless communication systems company MindMade. The consortium also involves the Institute of Aviation, Military Electronic Works SA and the Silesian Science and Technology Centre for Aviation Industry.

"The consortium is open. We have an application from the Military University of Technology, its accession to the consortium is expected to be finalized in September" - said the PAP WB Electronics SA research and new technologies director Wojciech Komorniczak. He added that the consortium also issued an invitation to the Polish Defence Holding (formerly Bumar).

According to WB Electronics, practical knowledge and skills of the consortium members will allow to develop and manufacture - entirely in the country - the whole family of unmanned aircrafts for the Ministry of National Defence, and potentially also for export.

This year, the Polish Army will receive 12 sets of FlyEye unmanned aircrafts. The drones are designed for the army - artillery units and air reconnaissance squadron from Mirosławiec - and the Special Forces, who have used flying machines of this type before. Polish soldiers - also in Afghanistan - use Orbiter drones made in Israel.

According to the the Ministry of National Defence plans presented last year, over the next 10 years the Ministry intends to buy 82 sets of flying drones of different classes and ranges , not only for reconnaissance, but also combat purposes. Prior to the amendment to the budget, funds foreseen for this purpose amounted to PLN 2-3 billion.
