Nine student teams from Poland in Shell Eco-Marathon 2013

Nine teams will represent Poland in the 29th edition of Shell Eco-Marathon. The task is to build a vehicle that will travel longest possible distance on one litre of fuel. The race will be held on 15 - 19 May in Rotterdam.

"Driving from Rotterdam to Moscow on one litre of fuel may seem like an impossible task, but it isn’t. Every year, students from across Europe push the boundaries of fuel efficiency during the Shell Eco-marathon Europe" - claim the organizers.

In this year\'s race, more than 3 thousand students divided into 224 teams from 24 countries will compete. Poland will be represented by nine teams. Two of them, "Eco CarPG" - Scientific Club "Mechanik" and "Mietek Team" - come from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering are from Gdańsk University of Technology. Lublin University of Technology will be represented by "Elvic Team" from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and "Eco Zone 505" of the Materials Engineering Scientific Club.

Three teams will represent Warsaw University of Technology: "Green Arrow" of the Faculty of Automotive and Construction Machinery Engineering, "Simra Team" of the Faculty of Automotive and Construction Machinery Engineering and "SKAP" Students Vehicle Aerodynamics Club of Warsaw University of Technology from the Faculty of Power and Aeronautical Engineering.

Other Polish teams in the race will be "Smart Power" from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Silesian University of Technology, and "Iron Wariors" from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of Łódź University of Technology.

Teams will be competing in two categories: futuristic "Prototype" and conventional "UrbanConcept". In vehicles they design and build they will use both conventional fuels such as gasoline, diesel, ethanol, GTL, as well as alternative energy sources, including hydrogen and electricity.

"The 2013 Shell Eco-marathon Europe sees the merging of the Solar and ‘Battery Electric’ categories. This change reflects the direction the automotive industry is taking on electric vehicles" - announced inform the race organizers.

In 2012, the streets of the Dutch city of Rotterdam changed into a racetrack, where more than 40 thousand watched the race. Street circuit with five sharp, 90-degree corners, forced the racers to show great driving skills. The race held in the heart of the metropolis was also a new challenge for vehicles used to track conditions.

Eight Polish teams competed in last year\'s race. The best performer was the team "Eco Zone 505", taking third place in the "Urban Concept" category among diesel vehicles. Smart Power team from Silesian University of Technology with its car Mushellka competed in the category of electric-powered prototypes. During the race, the team drove the 425 km distance on 1 kWh. This result gave the team 10th place in the general classification.
