Special website addressed to foreign students, a guide to the city and Polish language textbook - these are some of the activities undertaken in the framework of the project "Study in Gdańsk" to attract more students from abroad to local universities.

Current and planned activities undertaken in the framework of the project "Study in Gdańsk" were the subject of the press conference organized on April 28 by the local government.

As announced at the conference, in the academic year that is now ending, almost 80 thousand students study at all 13 public and private universities in Gdańsk, of which more than 1.5 thousand are foreigners enrolled in a full course of study (this does not include students staying in Gdańsk temporarily on foreign exchange, including the Erasmus programme).

Mayor of Gdańsk Paweł Adamowicz told reporters that the local government would like more young people from abroad to study at Gdańsk universities. "We want this not only because of direct benefits to universities, or the proceeds from tuition and jobs for teachers, etc. Equally important to us is that students from abroad are potential ambassadors of our city in their home countries"- said Adamowicz.

He explained that together with Gdańsk universities, the local government carries out the project "Study in Gdańsk", with the goal of attracting more students from abroad to the city. "We hope that the coordinated activities will help us achieve this goal. Our advantages include high level of education and large number of courses taught in English. We are also relatively cheaper than universities in Western Europe" - said Adamowicz.

Anna Zbierska from the Mayor’s promotion office informed that as part of "Study in Gdańsk", in recent days the city launched the website www.study-gdansk.com, which provides information in Polish, English and Russian on the offer of all Gdańsk universities. "The website also has a calendar of current events of interest to students" - said Zbierska.

She reminded that the local government has also published a Polish language textbook, which consists of two CDs and a book. "This publication, unique in the country, is distributed among students by universities. Just like, also dedicated for students, published in English and Russian, special guide containing a compendium of knowledge about the city" - said Zbierska.

She added that in cooperation with universities, local government organizes tours, during which young people starting their education Gdańsk, can see the city.

The project "Study in Gdańsk" since recently also has the support of the Foundation Perspektywy, which runs a similar projects to promote all Polish universities - "Study in Poland". Bianka Siwińska from Perspektywy Foundation said that, according to the CSO data, in the current the academic year in Poland in the full course of study there are more than 46 thousand students from abroad, while in the previous academic year there were less than 36 thousand.
