The Copernicus Award waiting for applications of scientists for the sixth time

Polish and German researchers who conduct joint research project can apply for Polish-German Scientific Award COPERNICUS. The prize amount of 200 thousand euros is divided equally among the two recipients. Applications can be submitted until 15 June.

Polish-German Scientific Award COPERNICUS is awarded by the Foundation for Polish Science and the German Research Foundation (DFG, Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft). This award is given since 2006 every two years to two collaborating scientists - from Poland and Germany, who carry out joint research project.

The award distinguishes the most active participants in the German-Polish scientific cooperation in recognition of exceptional research achievements as resulting from that cooperation. "Candidates are expected to have rendered outstanding services to German-Polish cooperation, bringing together complementary skills, expertise, and resources in order to jointly address research problems. Results of such joint cooperation shall have a potential to open new perspectives in their respective research fields or other domains and provide an exceptional contribution towards the advancement of both nations" - informs the Foundation for Polish Science.

Candidates are academics who have at least a doctoral degree and work at a Polish or German academic institutions. In addition, they should be leaders of research teams, engaged in ongoing research projects.

Candidates - representing any field of science - may be nominated by researchers holding a doctoral degree, employed at a Polish or German academic institution. Self-nominations are also considered. Winners are selected by a Jury appointed jointly by DFG and FNP. The deadline for submitting nominations is the 15th of June 2015.

The prize is 200 thousand euros, but the winners must share it equally. The researchers should use the funds to further advance Polish-German cooperation.

The results of the current edition are scheduled to be announced eight months after the deadline for submission of nominations. The award ceremony will be held in Warsaw in June 2016.
