Eleven universities received money to implement programs that will increase the number of foreign students. Each of the winning colleges may receive up to PLN 100 thousand support from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.

The competition "Promotion of Polish higher education institutions among foreigners" settled by the Ministry of Science, will enable higher education institutions to prepare and implement promotional activities to encourage foreign students to study in Poland.

The best projects have been presented by Kozminski University in Warsaw, Medical University of Lublin and the University of Łódź. The winners also include the University of Silesia in Katowice, Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, University of Warsaw, Jagiellonian University, Polish-Japanese Institute of Information Technology in Warsaw, Catholic University of Lublin, AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków, University of Opole.

According to the Ministry of Science, the ideas proposed by the universities included cooperation with foreign bloggers and social media, creation of a comprehensive program to build a network of graduates with interesting career paths, appointment of college ambassadors from different geographical areas. "Universities also proposed to use modern technology to build virtual travel guide to help potential candidates in their travel to Poland and Polish language courses for foreigners and classes on Central and Eastern Europe, including political, economic and cultural issues" - reads the release sent to PAP.

According to CSO data, 36 thousand foreign students currently study at Polish universities. Compared to last year the number increased by 7 thousand. "We set an ambitious target that by 2020 this number should exceed 100 thousand. This goal cannot be achieved without the effort of institutions that must create attractive programs of study in English, attract foreign lecturers, seek partners in different regions, obtain foreign accreditation" - said the Minister of Science and Higher Education Lena Kolarska-Bobińska.

The competition announced in June was open to public and private institutions of higher education with several years of experience in the field of university internationalisation. In the assessment of proposals taken into consideration were the project innovativeness and coherence and its cost-absorption.
