Agreement on the establishment Polish-French laboratory

Joint research on the mechanisms of cancer development and methods to combat the disease with modern experimental treatments will be conducted in the Polish-French biotechnology laboratory in Kraków. Agreement on the establishment of the facility has been concluded at the Jagiellonian University.

The document has been signed by the rector of the Jagiellonian University Prof. Wojciech Nowak and Deputy Director of the Institute of Biological Sciences of CNRS (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique), Dr. Jean Claude Michalski.

The new unit will operate as an International Associated Laboratory (Laboratoire International Associé, LIA). Its personnel will include representatives of the Department of Medical Biotechnology of the Faculty of Biochemistry, Biophysics and Biotechnology,, Jagiellonian University and the team from the CNRS Centre of Molecular Biophysics in Orleans.

Polish and French scientists have been conducting joint cancer research since 2003 at the Faculty of Biochemistry, Biophysics and Biotechnology. In September, the joint lab will receive new premises located at the new Malopolska Centre of Biotechnology, III Campus of the Jagiellonian University.

According to rector of the Jagiellonian University, the agreement is important for both parties. "Working together helps build a common future. This is important not only for teachers, but especially for the young generation of scientists, for students" - said the rector.
