Five universities receiver the ELSEVIER Research Impact Leaders Award
University of Rzeszów, Maritime University of Gdynia, Medical University of Gdańsk, University of Zielona Góra and Gdańsk University of Technology were awarded the ELSEVIER Research Impact Leaders Award 2017. The award promotes high quality research and internationalisation.
The intention of the Elsevier Award is to identify and honour universities whose latest (2014-2016) scientific work has the greatest impact on the visibility of Polish science in the world. The award promotes the high quality of research and their internationalisation.
The awards are given in six disciplines: Agricultural Sciences, Engineering and Technology, Humanities, Medical Sciences, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences.
The winner in two categories was the University of Rzeszów. In the field of Agricultural Sciences, the university recorded the highest increase in the number of publications in Poland, combined with an increase in the number of authors. The University of Rzeszów was also a clear winner in the Humanities category. This result was mainly influenced by publications in the field of philosophy, ethics and religion, especially those dealing with martial arts.
Maritime University of Gdynia triumphed in the Engineering and Technology category. In 2014-2016, it had the highest percentage of publications in highest impact journals in the country in the Engineering and Technology category - it reached to 33%. "This result will surely translate into even greater citation rate in the future" - reads the verdict justification.
The Medical University of Gdańsk won in the category of Medical Sciences. The number of this university\'s publications in the best journals in this discipline is growing every year. At the same time, the citation rate of the Medical University of Gdańsk publications is one of the highest in the country. The university has achieved success due to highly cited publications in journals such as Kardiologia Polska, as well as New England Journal of Medicine or Lancet.
The University of Zielona Góra was awarded in the Natural Sciences category. It he has the highest citation rate in Poland in this category, which together with the dynamic increase in the number of authors and the number of publications in this category gave it an advantage over its competitors.
Gdansk University of Technology for the second time has moved to the leading position in Social Sciences. This was possible due to the high level of international cooperation and a large increase in the number of publications and authors.
The ELSEVIER Research Impact Leaders Award, awarded for the first time in 2016, is part of the global Elsevier initiative that supports research and the development of science. The award is given in recognition of efforts of outstanding research institutions that have the greatest impact on research and contribute to better recognition of Polish science in the world.
The jury takes into account the increase in the number of publications in the most prestigious scientific journals, publications with the participation of foreign co-authors and citation rate in a given discipline.
The awards were presented during the gala of the second edition of the conference "Polish universities in the global perspective. Rankings and strategic management of a university", which took place on November 27 in Warsaw. The conference was organized jointly by the Conference of Rectors of Academic Schools in Poland (KRASP), the Polish Accreditation Committee (PKA) and Perspektywy Education Foundation.
