After the retreat of the glacier in Europe, the European bison`s diet changed. These animals moved to the forests from the more convenient open areas. The reason was not only a change in vegetation, but also human pressure. The aurochs did not adapt so well to these changes, researchers from Białowieża show.
Could thousands of species of animals on Earth can go extinct unnoticed? Many species from hardly accessible depths remain undiscovered. Therefore, there is a fear that human activity will lead to extinction of their predominant number before they are discovered, marine biologists alarm.
Many animals get killed by cars; this problem also concerns monkeys. In the latest "Mammal Review", scientists from the University of Life Sciences in Poznań presented information on nearly 370 collisions with 46 primate species from 4 continents. They sourced the data from the Internet.
Microorganisms, spiders, barley seedlings and new materials have been sent to the stratosphere by scientists from the University of Silesia, who want to check how the conditions in the stratosphere will affect them. The initiative was awarded during the Global Space Balloon Challenge 2019.
The smallest structures of a living organism can be watched "at work". Researchers have obtained sharp images of working and communicating cells. The innovative imaging methods have been developed by Prof. Maciej Wojtkowski`s team from the Institute of Physical Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
